FlagWaste Minimisation Workshop
- will cover 2 of the Eco-Schools Learning Outcomes 'Materials and their sources' and 'Decomposition and nutrient transfer'.

In groups of 4 the students will look at the average lunch box contents (which we bring along) leading to a discussion on packaging and how we could reduce it. We talk about composting - natures way of recycling. If you don't already have a compost bin we can help you set one up, or if you are experiencing problems with a compost bin we can help you fix it. We finish the morning with a biodegradable experiment which the students will monitor throughout the year so they can see how long it takes for different materials to break down.

Racing CarEnergy Workshop
- will cover 2 of the Eco-Schools Learning Outcomes 'Importance of renewable and non-renewable sources' and 'Ways to make the school more energy efficient'.

In groups of 4 the students will look at the embodied energy involved in everyday items such as a newspaper, drinks can, plastic bottle and a glass bottle taking into account the entire life-cycle. The object of the exercise is for the students to work out the energy process involved in everyday items - for example how a tree growing in Russia becomes a newspaper in Scotland.

We then talk about electricity and fossil fuels, leading on to a Global Warming activity which the students participate in pairs. This will lead on to a discussion on renewable energy. Again in pairs the students will look at ways to make the school more energy efficient and the morning will finish with some physical hands-on activities
